It's been a week of beautiful weather here on Pine Island. This morning a light fog kept it slightly cool. Rounding the bend on a sand road in Bokeelia, I was lucky to spot a large flock peacocks milling around, there were at least fifteen of them, including three albino peacocks, which are solid white including the combs on their heads!
Peacocks are one of many things that are native to south Asia that thrive on Pine Island including Kapok Trees, Bamboo, Mangoes, Lychee, and (I believe) Jacaranda trees. I'll have to check on the Jacaranda, they may be native to Africa. Anyway, our climate allows all of these to grow and thrive on Pine Island.
You can still buy a nice half acre rural lot on a sand road on Pine Island for around $15,000 and enjoy the wild peacocks yourself.
