Farms and Agricultural Land on Pine Island

Pine Island's rural charcter is enjoyed by all who lives here. The land is also a livelihood for many Pine Island land owners. More than 5,000 acres of Pine Island land presently qualify for an agricultural tax exemption, which means the land is used for a bona fide commercial agricultural business.

About 60% of agriculturally used land is palm groves. Another 20% is grazing lands, mainly for cattle but also for goats and horses. At least 500 acres, or about 10% of agriculturally used land produces many varieties of mangos, hence Pine Island's annual Mango Mania festival every July. Other tropical fruits grown on Pine Island include: papaya, star fruit, avococado, lychee and jackfruit.
