February has been very mild on Pine Island, and wading birds are abundant in Pine Island Sound. This beautiful spoonbill can often be seen skimming the waters for krill.
I've heard the deep pink huge of the spoonbill's feathers are linked to spoonbills eating pink shrimp.
Don't forget, this weekend is the nationwide Audubon backyard bird count. To join in, visit www.birdsource.org.
