Migrating fall birds on Pine Island

Pine Island is one of the best places in Florida to bird watch.  In the fall, dozens of species of birds migrate here for the winter, many hawks, warblers, plovers, hummingbirds, ducks and other shore birds.

My friend and client Martha Huard has turned photography from a hobby to a vocation and was announced as a finalist in the Ding Darling Photography Contest winner for 2019!  I think the winners will all be announced on October 20 at the Ding Darling Days celebration on Sanibel.

She and I met up at the pier in Pineland over the weekend, and she took this great photograph of a roseate spoonbill who was wading there.  Spoonbills are here year round, but you more commonly see them in the fall and winter.

You can enjoy more of Martha's photographs are the Wild Child Gallery, in Matlacha, the gateway to Pine Island.
