Calusa Blueway Paddling Festival, Pine Island, FL

The Calusa Blueway Paddling Festival is coming to Pine Island next weekend November 3-4. The whole blueway is more than 100 miles and includes a paddling trail from Bonita Springs Imperial River to Lovers Key in South Ft. Myers, thru Mound Key across Estero Bay Aquatic Preserve across the mouth of the Caloosahatchee River to Pine Island.

The Pine Island section of the Blueway starts at the southern end of Pine Island at Picnic Key, goes north thru Matlacha Pass Aquatic Preserve around Bokeelia, to Bocilla Island and across Pine Island Sound Aquatic Preserve to Cayo Costa Island. According to the organizers the event is "for people curious about Lee County's 233 square miles of inland waters, most of which are calm and easy to paddle".

Here's a photo of Gulf Coast Kayaks in Matlacha where you can rent a canoe or kayak. For more information about the event, go to http://www.greatcalusablueway.com/. For more information about Pine Island real estate, go to http://www.pineislandhomesandland.com/.
