Pineland is a neighborhood and a zip code, an area of about 2 square miles on the far west side of Bokeelia. In Pineland, there are two places to launch a boat. First the Pineland Marina is probably the largest marina on Pine Island, with a large boat barn, big boat ramp, kayak put in, and ship's store. Several charter boats and water taxi's to the outer islands operate from Pineland marina, and you can lease a boat from the Freedom Boat Club there.
There is a shady waiting area for boaters to relax under a palm thatched roof. Nearby, just a quarter mile south on waterfront drive, is the public non-motorized boat put in known locally as Hattie's Landing. Here you can put in a kayak, canoe or paddle board and glide out to beautiful Pine Island sound, where I have seen sharks, sea turtles, dolphins, manatees and many birds and fish. Parking is extremely limited to 4-6 vehicles. There is also a pier that is meant to be an outlook pier, not a fishing pier.
If you proceed north a few hundred yards to 13810 Waterfront Drive, you will come to the Calusa Heritage Trail at the Randell Research Center.
