Paddle Boarding on Pine Island

My Zimbio
Top Stories

I've been away for a week or so visiting my daughter.  On my return, my sister and her husband were visiting.  I finally got a chance to try out paddle boarding on the bay in Matlacha, and it was so much fun, I can't believe I waited so long to try it!

We rented paddle boards at Gulf Coast Kayak in Matlacha (www.GulfCoastKayak.com) , which offers both lessons and rentals of kayaks and paddleboards.  Their phone # is 239-283-1125, they were friendly and helpful.  My only "complaint" was the area on my paddle board where your feet are placed was worn, and there was very little to "grip" with your toes.  I still did manage stand up paddling even with very little "toe-traction".

Here's some photo's of our day.  Now I know what I want for my upcoming birthday!

Don't forget a hat, cover up and sunscreen.  The water is nice but the sun is awfully strong this time of year.    Other places to paddle board off Pine Island would be Tropical Point Park in Saint James City, the small beach on Water Front Drive in Pineland, (both have limited free parking), and back bay of Bokeelia, where there is a charge for parking, I think it is $10. per day.  You can also kayak or paddleboard from Matlacha Park in Matlacha.  Parking there is also free.
