The weather is still fine, though getting warm (80's) on Pine Island, but the mornings are still fresh in the high 60's or low 70's, a good time for fishing the waters around Pine Island: Charlotte Harbor, Pine Island Sound, Matlacha Bay, and San Carlos Bay. These guys were heading out to Charlotte Harbor from Jug Creek, this morning.
The following fish are now in season on the Gulf Coast of Florida: amberjack (through May), Gag Grouper (through June), Other Grouper (through January). There is no closed season for these fish:
king mackerel and Spanish mackerel, sheepshead, black drum, snapper (except red), mullet, spotted seatrout, pompano, cobia, barracuda, mahi, redfish, tripletail, flounder, bluefish, sea bass, and hogfish.
As the weather gets warmer and the water warms up, the fishing gets better! June 1 is free fishing day in Florida, where you can fish without a license. To get a Florida fishing license, go to: www.myfwc.com/license
