Bird Watching on Pine Island

Bird watching is a favorite past time on Pine Island and you can see some great birds simply by walking or biking around the island. Some of the birds of prey you may see are ospreys, eagles, black and turkey vultures, swallow tail kites, harriers, red shouldered and red tail hawks, broad winged hawk, barn owls, great horned owls, and kestrels. Water birds are also abundant including wood storks, ibis, spoonbills, common and white pelicans, all kinds of ducks, herons, egrets, gulls and sand pipers. But my favorites are the birds of woods and fields, including blue jays, woodpeckers, kingfishers, hummingbirds, nighthawks, sparrows, finches, whipporwills, bobwhites and quail. Here are photos of a flyer catcher and a scarlet tanager I took this week. For more information about real estate on beautiful Pine Island, contact me, Erika Foye, at erikafoye@embarqmail.com.
