Springtime is fishing time on Pine Island

With warming waters and migrating fish, Spring Time is one of the best fishing seasons on Pine Island. This photo is of the Bokeelia Pier at the north end of Pine Island. Other places to fish from shore include the Lee County Fishing Pier in Matlacha, you can wade in a waterfront park in Pineland or on the St. Jude Trail in eastern St. James City. The most famous (and free) fishing spot is the Matlacha Bridge in Matlacha. A few of the local fish species you may catch include sheepshead, snook, snapper, flounder, mackeral, grouper, and seatrout.
