Growing Tropical Plants on Pine Island

Here is a photo of my angel trumpets plant. Angel trumpets bloom at night, closing when the sun comes up. Since it is a foggy morning, they are still open at 9 a.m. Angels Trumpets are native to South America but most tropical plants will grow on Pine Island because temperatures below 40 are extremely rare. I believe we are in the USDA growing zone 9b or 10a, the only more Tropical US zone is Hawaii. Other tropicals commonly found growing here include poinciana, Hong Kong orchid, Ling Ling, Golden Rain Tree, Mimosa Tree, Bottlebrush Tree, and a host of others. There are many commerical nurseries on Pine Island, an especially beautiful one in St. James City on Stringfellow Road specializes in all varieties of Bouganvilla. . .photo's to follow.
